Song: Break My Stride (1983)

Artist: Matthew Wilder

Album: I Don't Speak the Language (Private I)

Break My Stride is Matthew Wilder's one hit song from 1983. Although Wilder had little support, he managed to compete with other one-hits such as Der Kommisar, Blinded Me with Science, and Kajagoogoo (Too Shy). This feel-good pop-rock classic can still be heard on oldies and Lite FM stations and is found on numerous compilation albums, including Feel Good Rock, Songs You Know By Heart, which also features "Hold Your Head Up" By Argent, the band of Rod Argent of The Zombies.

There is a reason the song has such staying-power. Writing such a timeless song is not easy, but like many so-called one-hit-wonders, Matthew Wilder should not be counted out as a song writer and producer. He has worked with Jimmy Cliff, Aaron Neville, Sheena Easton, Chritina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, The Belle Brigade, King Charles, Billy Ray Cyrus, Stevie Wonder, Natalie Cole, Bette Midler, and even Puff Daddy, among many other artists. Perhaps most notable is Wilder's work with No Doubt, on Tragic Kingdom, from which came the mega-hit Don't Speak, as well as Just a Girl, Spiderwebs, and more. The album sold more than 20 million copies and Wilder received a Grammy Nomination for Best Rock Album.

He was also nominated for an academy award nomination and Golden Globe nomination for his work on Disney's Mulan as composer, instrumentalist, and singer. With David Zippel he wrote the song Reflection for the film. Christina Aguilera released her own version of the song as her first single and first hit when she was 17. As the singing-voice of the Character Ling, Wilder sang A Girl Worth Fighting For and I'll Make a Man Out of You. He won the Annie Award for Best Music in an Animated Feature. He has also written two Broadway musicals, Princesses, and Cry to Heaven, and adaptation of the Anne Rice novel.

Although Wilder didn't have any other successes like Break My Stride on his own releases, he did have a minor hit with "The Kid's American," in 1984, which made it to no. 33.

Break My Stride Chorus - Matthew Wilder Lyrics

Ain't nothin' gonna break my stride
Nobody gonna slow me down, oh no
I got to keep on movin'
Ain't nothin' gonna breaka my stride
I'm running and I won't touch ground
Oh no, I got to keep on movin'
